Scream chamber for COVID testing also therapeutic

A Dutch inventor is capturing aerosols from people’s screams as a way of testing for COVID-19.

We’ve all become accustomed to the ‘brain scraper’ COVID test, where swabs are inserted an uncomfortable distance up both nostrils and given a vigorous, unforgiving twist.

But relief may be on its way with Dutch entrepreneur Peter Van Wees proposing a different, more therapeutic method.

He is placing people in a scream booth and letting them expel rage whilst also showering the chamber with viral particles, which can be collected and tested for COVID-19.

The scream test takes about three minutes, with an industrial air purifier collecting all the aerosols, which are tested for the pandemic strains.

It’s encouraged that you bring a photograph of a people you wish to scream at – perhaps a photo of the smirkiest male Australian politician or the entire royal family?

“If you have coronavirus and are infectious and yelling and screaming, you are spreading tens of thousands of particles which contain coronavirus,” said Mr Van Wees.

Mr Van Wees has set up a scream chamber next to a COVID-19 testing centre in Amsterdam and is inviting people who have already received the official test to try his method out.

One person testing out the scream booth said, “It’s always very nice to scream, when nobody can hear you though. I think it’s a good way of meditation as well … it’s fun!”
