Helping the elderly navigate cancer

1 minute read

New resources have been developed to help older people navigate treatments, side effects, and participation in clinical trials.

Half of all Australians experience some form of cancer by the time they are 85.

But despite cancer being a common disease in older Australians, elderly patients often have less access to acute treatments, information on side effects, and opportunities to take part in clinical trials.

This episode, Professor Mei Krishnasamy director of the clinical nursing unit at the Peter McCallum Cancer Centre, discusses the free information and templates which could help older adults discuss their care with their GP, cancer team and family.

You can access the OlderCan resources at www.oldercan.org.

The Tearoom is a podcast hosted by journalist Francine Crimmins as part of our sister publication for GPs, The Medical Republic.
